Buying the Right Science Kit for Your Child
I’ve found that providing your child with the right educational science kit is a great way to help them with them in the areas of science and technology. Too often such education is shortchanged in today’s education systems. This is seen especially when science education doesn't have much application to everyday things. I don’t want to dwell on problems with the education system because, if you believe as I do, it is out job as parents to assist the schools by finding ways at home to educate our children on science and tech topics.
Do you remember the joy you had as a kid playing and learning with a science kit? Maybe it was a chemistry set or perhaps a microscope or a telescope. Perhaps you had a kit that dealt with earth sciences like geology or something that allowed you to learn biology or ecology. My goal has been to help my children find this same joy in science kits as I did.
What I’ve found to be the best idea is to find out what kind of science the child might be interested in and match this up with the best science kits for children. For example, if they’re interested in electronics, then an electronics kit would be a good choice. If they’re into mixing stuff up, look at a chemistry set for kids. If they are into rocks and the outdoors, then a geology kit or fossil kit that’s kid friendly might be the best idea.
The bottom line is to match what your child is interested in with an age appropriate science kit that matches their interest.
